I recently found this awesome sounding metal cover in my workshop and decided to do some high quality recordings with it. I used akg c414, a neve portic 5012 preamp my rme bayface and some slight postproduction (compression and slight eq). The sound is open source and can be downloaded in 24bit wave here.

This is the sound of my roomba 671 robot vacuum cleaner, you hear him cleaning and the brushes are turning. You also hear some bumps against the wall before he enters the battery station and makes the typical sound when the roomba entered the battery station succesfully. Recorded with a tascam dr 40.

I made this sound with some recordings of me (basically being a dork) coughing, growling, snorting, blowing into the microphone and more. One sudden peel, truncated, modified and reversed in various ways until it sounded (to me) like it could vaguely represent the sound of sewing. . . . My forklift recorded using my phone at work. I just cut out and muted most of the ambience using goldwave (http://www. Goldwave. Com/) to make it more just the hydraulics. If you cut out sections, scramble them and fool around with the speed in the sound, i think you can get a great variety of pneumatic and robot-sounding sounds out of it.

Damaged smartphone screen protector being broken and crushed in bare hands (should've used gloves. . . ). Recorded with behringer b-1 microphone into focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen. Into audacity on arch linux at 192 khz/24 bit. The recording was not processed or edited in any way to retain maximum flexibility to sound artists who will use this as an element. This can be useful as a sound effect for freezing or burning or deep-frying or even rain (when slowed down). Thanks to extremely wide frequency range the recording can be cleanly slowed down up to 25% speed. There's clean frequency content up to 80 khz in the recording. In a few places the mic gain was too much and a pop is clipped, but could still be useful for sound of braking or snapping something (bone?). No denoising was applied - perform your own if needed, though the sounds are mostly free of background hum (a bit of pc noise can be heard in the first minute before i turned down the gain).

This is recorded at droescher's mill in cranford nj. The local dam used to power a waterwheel. The wheel is no longer in operation but it's still a nice relaxing spot. A little waterfall is in the foreground, a big waterfall (the dam) is in the background, and the sounds of traffic are audible faintly. Recorded on 06/23/19 at 8:45 a. M. Outside nassau hall, a historic building located in syosset, ny. Sounds that can be heard include: various birds, continuous planes flying overhead, an occasional passing car, a light breeze, a horse snorting (at 9:14 and 9:17), a few distant voices, and insects. A zoom h1n and 3dio fs binaural microphone were to used to record this track.

This is a crusty old tape i found. Field recordings possibly made maybe in the 70's or 80's. The end of the tape is weird i think he recorded a dog panting or maybe its a cat purring but has slowed it down. It sounds cool and i always wanted to use it for something but never quite managed to make it fit.

This clip is the rear channels, mic'd at close range near the edge of the waterwheel, the sluicing sound of water falling out of the wheel is clearly discernible. Recording conducted with a zoom h2, mics set to 120° dispersion.

A close-up stereo recording (3 meters) of a freight train idling then passing by. You can hear the train slowly accelerating more and more, until it is going by at very fast speeds. I found this wonderful 4 foot high waterfall in a small canyon in the shawnee national forest in southern illinois. The cool splashing of the rivulet as it spilled out onto a catch-pool was enhanced by the echo as the sound bounced off the 3-sided grotto. Recording of a fairly boisterous stream near my house. It has a lot of motion due to the fact that a branch was caught on the bank of the stream which was being pulled about in different directions resulting in different rates of flow and a varying sound. Recorded on september 4, 2020 on an ipad. Some parts or maybe even all of it may sound like just noise to some people. It was recorded in a government fenced in square. So there are buildings on 3 sides of my location and a gated entrance at the front. It is mainly drums that are played for a dragon dance. These dances are performed at special occasions, such as a new business opening. There is a troop of about 8 people there to perform the dance. For the first half of the recording, the two dragons (four people) were preparing and they were actually performing the dance for the second half of this recording.

Near where i do many of my favorite nature recordings there are train tracks which can ocassionally be very busy -- and yes, sometimes they have interfered with some of my nature recordings. But, recently i recorded the sound of the approaching train carrying loads of coal. It was around dusk and breezy -- melancholy combination. . . . I really love the echo of the whistle. . . . And as i listened i could not help but think about 100 years ago when trains were more common, amazing how things change. Well, here it is. Kvgarlic.
